In pencil on back, bold and large “S Sandoe HMS Robin” (Sidney Sandoe served on HMS Robin from April 1902 to August 1904). Smaller notes in pencil on back, two different hands: “A Wood, Amy Sandoe, Anne 1926, deceased 1911?” and “… Sandoe, Deceased February? 1926”.

• DEATH. Sidney Sandoe died 27 July 1911 at RN Hospital, Gillingham; harbourman at Sheerness Dockyard; naval pensioner; age 42; chronic interstitial nephritis; heart failure; registered Medway 1911SEP 2a/912. Sources: DC, GRO. According to daughters Marie and Clarice, he took part in a sea rescue in the estuary in a storm in Feb/March, came home wet through, and never returned to work again.
• PHOTOGRAPH. Group of the four children, left to right Clarice, Marie, Vera, Amy. Taken around 1913-14 judging by Vera’s size. Glossy sepia 88x137mm including white border, back printed as postcard, front embossed at bottom right “J. Griffiths SHEERNESS on SEA”. Pencil note “ME” in border below Clarice.

Presumably 1912-13 (Vera looks to be 2 or 3). Postcard, embossed J. Griffiths, Sheerness-on-Sea. ME written below Clarice (this was Clarice’s copy).

• Comments: Son of Francis 1834FR01 and Jane Emily 1831JA01. RN 1883-1906 (PRO). Amy B was named in memory of Sidney Sandoe’s niece Selina B A. Known to the family as Sidney, to his shipmates as Dick.
