The Poldice valley
Many of the Sando/w/es were Cornish tin streamers or miners. This scene shows the ruined engine house of former Wheal Maid mine in the Poldice Valley near Twelveheads and Chacewater in Cornwall. Amalgamated with  neighbouring mines in 1782, it finally closed around 1870.
